Burrownomicon ~ Top Lists

....Top Lists

Please, reconsider. You have read so much, come so far, and yet you crave deeper knowledge. To properly master burrowers, you must experiment for yourself, learn their secrets. Perhaps you may find a way to master them without tainting you soul, losing yourself. Try this list, and you will try no other. You will be consumed.

Army:
Type: Duel (1 caster, 35pts)
Points: 35
Calandra Truthsayer, Oracle of the Glimmerwood (*5pts)
* Troll Impaler (5pts)
* Dire Troll Bomber (10pts)
Pyg Burrowers (Leader and 9 Grunts) (6pts)
Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew (Leader and 1 Grunt) (1pts)
Trollkin Fennblades (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
Fell Caller Hero (3pts)
Stone Scibe Chronicler (2pts)
Trollkin Runebearer (2pts)
Trollkin Champion Hero (3pts)

A recipe for evil if ever there was one. Lets examine it, shall we.

Calandra:
As noted, she is the premier burrower caster. With her, burrowers can attack targets up to DEF 15, and try to kill targets up to ARM 20. That covers a whole lot of space.

Bomber:
The only problem burrowers have with Calandra is DEF 16+. With things like Iron Flesh running around, the bomber is useful for wiping out infantry with those score. He also synergizes well with Calandra, doing huge amounts of damage to heavy targets on feat turn.

Impaler:
The Bomber, as the main non-burrower damage dealer, needs the extra range. Slamming is also an excellent kill set up.

Fennblades:
Burrowers take a lot of killing under Star Crossed. As such, little retaliation is available against the rest of your army. Vengeance heavily punishes killing just a few models in the unit. They can also hold the fort on the reburrow turn, keeping Calandra safe while the burrowers pose to strike next turn.

Runebearer:
Makes more Calandra safe by saving her fury for transfers. Also casts Befuddle and Force Blow to set up decent DEF targets for autohits by burrowers.

Swamp Gobbers:
There was a point left.

Fellcaller/Chronicler/Hero:
Present and accounted for.

The tactics are simple. Burrow first turn, always. Pop up, pop feat, use the buffers, slaughter, set up to capitalize on thier attempts to remove the burrowers. Next turn, if needed, reburrow. If not, finish them off. This sounds too easy, and it really, really is. Unless they are very experienced against burrowers and have a decent counter, burrowers will core out their army and leave nothing left that Fennblades and a Bomber can't handle. Its extremely hard to mess up. If the burrowers dice fail them, Star Crossed will let them live. If they roll poorly, the feat will fix it for you. If you fail the critical roll, Calandra will let them reroll it. This list can handle everything.

However, steamroller allows two lists, so there is a variation that you can take. Simply swap out Calandra, the Runebearer and the gobbers for eMadrak and a Totem Hunter. The list has fewer ways of dealing with high DEF, but cracks ARM like none other. Take a gander at your opponents list. If they have lots of infantry or high DEF, take Calandra. If they have a bunch of heavy ARM or are low DEF, take eMadrak. Evil is easy.
