Awesome Armies ~ Borka by Goris

To kick off our newest Series, Awesome Armies, Goris has given us a write up on Borka and the successes, strategies, strengths and weaknesses with the army he has chosen to go with it.

Now, I am a huge fan of the eDoomy beast trifecta. However, that being such a popular list of late, I decided during nightfall to branch out and try our lower fury Melee centric casters. So I tailored a Borka list that has been working very well for me and provides a good number of troops, a few beasts and some great speed.

Points: 50
Borka Kegslayer (*5pts)
* Troll Axer (6pts)
* Earthborn Dire Troll (10pts)
Kriel Warriors (Leader and 5 Grunts) (4pts)
* 1 Kriel Warrior Caber Thrower (1pts)
* Kriel Warrior Standard Bearer & Piper (2pts)
Krielstone Bearer and 3 Stone Scribes (3pts)
* Krielstone Stone Scribe Elder (1pts)
Trollkin Fennblades (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
Trollkin Long Riders (Leader and 2 Grunts) (7pts)
Alten Ashley, Monster Hunter (2pts)
Fell Caller Hero (3pts)
Fell Caller Hero (3pts)
Horthol, Long Rider Champion (5pts)

How to win by PPS_Mod:Josh

This post was orginally posted HERE on the Privateer Press Forums by PPS_MOD JOSH.  It sums things up nicely and so I wanted to include it here.

If you're reading this, it's because of one of two reasons. The first is that you saw a thread started by a red name and you're curious to see what I have to say. The other is that you're interested in finding out how to win. I'll do my best to make it worth your while either way.

You see, I just read yet another topic discussing faction imbalances, and how a particular model is overpowered. There have been topics like this since the beginning, back when people eagerly awaited the chance to pick up the shiny new Cygnar and Protectorate battle boxes.

So I figured it was about time to explain how you can win, regardless of faction, point total, or army list. I expect some of you will ignore this and move on. Hopefully others will read it, think about it, and rely upon it.

Nightfall Review ~ Solos

Fel Caller Hero ~ He is an animal.  Who would have though all you had to do was increase his RAT a little and he would become a killing machine?  I like him on offense much more than I used to, but losing the ability to buff RAT & MAT still stings a little every time I use him.  Nightfall killing machine he should have been... spraying five sword knights in one attack = good.  Hitting one of them = Bad.  Not killing the one he hit = Insulting.  Redemption came in the form of a mostly dead unit of exemplars in another game but the lack of damage was already done.
Nightfall Rating 3 Stars
Least Favorite Band ~ Kriss Kross

Nightfall Review ~ Units

Kriel Warriors, Caber Tosser, Standard & Piper ~ The staple, the bread and butter, the left and right arm... these guys do thier job and do it well.  And what is their job you might ask?  Well, they run up and do their best not to die too fast.
Nightfall Rating 3 Stars
Nightfall tool of choice ~ The 'Log Puller' ~Lady & The Tramp

Nightfall Review ~ Warbeasts

Pyre Troll ~ Played a single game with this guy.  I think because I'm still reeling from when he got nerfed... yeah he is awesome again but I need to work him back in.
Nightfall Rating 2 Stars.
Nightfall Question ~ Are we there yet?

Slag Troll ~ Probably the reason why the Pyre Troll hasn't seen more action.  That and there are lots lots lots more Warmachine players in my lgs than there are Hordes.  That means we needs our jack killer.  For the record, my Slag Troll has been tearing it up in Nightfall.. though he does lack a little bit of punch... most our light beasts with two open fists do.
Nightfall Rating 4 Stars.
Nightfall Medical Condition ~ Mild Siderosis, with some outbreaks.

Nightfall Review ~ Casters

As my local gaming group heads into the Nightfall Championship/Finale scenario I thought I'd spend a few days and a few posts highlighting the best and worst performances.  Starting today with Casters.

Madrak Ironhide, Thornwood Chieftan ~ Saw only one game so far, but it was a doosie.  35 Points and eeked out a luky win when PS 19 Thrown Axe took out a screening Man-O-War and Snap Fire Took Sorcsha in the face dropping her.
Nightfall Rating 3 Stars.
Nightfall Question ~ What is Ricochet?

Nightfall Unique Model(s) breakdown vs Trolls

This post originally posted on the PP Forums HERE

This is a completely theorymachined article analyzing our opponents models for the league, and the implications of said models. If you have your own theory machine, it is fully welcome. If you have actual experience, even better.

Everblight – Nephelim Warder
Gains – 10" Lamentation Animus, Magic Weapon, Blessed Weapon, Force Barrier
Loses – 1 POW, Massacre animus, 1 DEF
Replacement effect: Minimal. It can fulfill an almost identical role if necessary. The main difference is the loss of Massacre.
Likelyhood of use: Very high. Who doesn’t want lamentation? Additionally, its more resilient to ranged attacks and is nearly as potent in combat, more so against defensively buffed models.
Fighting it: Almost exactly the same. Luckily we rely much more on melee than most, so Force Barrier means nothing. That said, Lamentation crushes some of out better casters, so expect to have to kill this sooner rather than later. The 10” range should mean that you can get to it rather easily. If its on a caster, like, say, eThagrosh, it will be a much greater problem, and you will have to just deal. Mulg to strip the animus away might be a good option, and other than that Grim or either Madrak don’t usually cast all that much.

Eric the Red

For a long time now I have been creating short pieces of fluff about some of my models.  Like my  tribe of Pygmies and their Blitzer they take care of.  One of those pieces of fluff that has emerged in my battle reports is about one certain Hero, "who until recently had not yet been named' and his seemingly futile efforts to get the attention of Grissel.  So without further ado, here is my newest painted model and some fluff on where he came from.

TROLLKIN CHAMPION HERO... ERIC "THE RED"  (BETTER PHOTO SOON)

(Excerpt from the writings of the Privateer Press book, 'Metamorphosis')
For hours he held his ground until the very earth was soaked with the blood of their dead. I lost count of how many fell before they ended him.

Player Spotlight ~ Goran75

Known to us on the PP forums as Goran75 he is a painter extraordinaire and of course awesome because he plays Trolls.  I sent him a small handful of questions and here are his responses.

Q. How long have you played WM/Hordes, and what got you started?
A. Been playing about 3 times a month for two years or so. Before that I was a 40k fiend (black Templars, Eldar). unfortunately, lately, I have been going through chemo to kick rectal cancer in the *** (eh, get it, subtle humor that). so sadly, I dont have the umph to game at the moment, somedays watching TV is taxing. dont worry this phase is just about over.
