The Gauntlet has been tossed

Lock and Load is going to big.  It's going to be glorious.  The action will be fast and furious.  The beer will be flowing and the Kilts will be fashionable.

Among all the things that will be happening at L&L one of these events will be momentous.  Goris and I (theummhmmguy) will be meeting for the first time face to face.

It is apparent that the best way to commemorate this meeting is for a truly epic battle of Kith and Kriel.

I'm calling you out Goris.  My Rocky Mountain Trolls are itching to test the Mettle of the West Coast Trolls.

My proposal is simple. You choose my caster and I'll choose yours, for 35 or 50 points of axe to mouth, we will have to work out the rest with the help of our readers.  Loser buys winner a Drink or a Caber Tosser.  That and of course our battle will be well documented here at The Scrum to enable the winner as much bragging rights as possible.

Saerko and Bakaryu you aren't off the hook.  You two are next...

The Tuffalo Shuffle

Full Tactica for Trollkin Longriders can be found HERE

Toughalow Shuffle

Since there has been renewed interest in this tactic I figured I would go more in depth about how it will work.

This tactic is wonderfully simple. Take a Long Rider and run him in front fo a group or single target you wish to be knocked down or simply killed. Take a second long rider in the unit and Slam the first long rider over whatever it was you wanted dead. Simply effective and with a great threat range. Apply this liberally to casters or anything you want dead. You may lose your long riders under exceptional damage rolls, but mostly likely the collateral damage from your Long Rider has likely killed whatever it just bowled over.

Now to illustrate this with a clever picture!

So, the jist of how this works. The leader gives the Bull Rush order. Numbers 1 and 2 Run or Charge under the order. Numbers 3 and 4 after those impacts or run have been resolved move like the rest of the unit. Resolve the Long Riders who impacted before the slams. Once those 2 have finished revolve 3 and 4's slams to kill even more WG in the process. This is highly simplified obviously, but that's basically how it works. There may be a discrepancy on when the slam happens since you choose who in the unit activates when, but it makes sense to me.

Quick and Dirty Painting – Krielstone Bearer and Stone Scribes

by Goris

You know them!  You love them! They are a must have in nearly every Trollblood army.  And I was tired of them not being painted, so this installment of Quick and Dirty Painting brings you the Krielstone Bearer and Stone Scribes!
After such an amazing response from the Trollblood community last time, I have modified my methods a little and will break down the easy steps I use to make my models pop with minimal effort for the everyday painter.

Step 1
As simple as it sounds: base coat EVERYTHING.  Make sure you get even paint coverage on everything on the model.  No metal showing.  You can easily go over things if you don’t like the color later and it’s much easier to paint over errors when they clearly contrast the paint already on the model.  It’s also nice to pick the general theme of the model during this phase as well.  I’ve recently decided my Trolls will be of the Red Sash Kriels.  They might even be a back story if I decide to make one!  The colors should be pretty obvious for everything here as I have few paint colors and I try to keep it as simple as possible.

Observations on 100pt and 2 Caster Games

by Goris

I took it upon myself just recently to play my first 100pt game and my first 2 caster game at that since MKII rolled out.  While this may seem a simple exercise the actuality of completing this task is a little more daunting in a number of ways.  While the experience was fun and can be very rewarding to watch your armies’ synergy really soar, it can also be very easy to clog up your own gears if you are not careful in a few ways.  I’ll discuss my reflections and give a few tips in this write up.

Planning
More than in most games, planning your game turn by turn is very important and in fact is much more necessary then in smaller games where it’s hard for your order of operations to really screw you too much.  In huge games not laying your buffs and synergy or even activating a unit out of turn can really screw you.  So, things to think about:

-          Take your time! Turns may ne timed but it’s better to make sure the stuff you activate did what it was supposed to do with the most potential rather then simply throwing your pieces around hastily trying not to hit the clock.
-          Try planning your turn out while your opponent plays so you have an idea of what you want to activate and when.
-          Your Oder of Operations is VERY important.  With so many bases moving around the tale it’s easy for you stuff to get in its own way, especially with all those medium bases.
-          Maximize your feat turns.  Feats on this scale are much more game altering when done to the maximum effect.  This means perhaps feating a turn later then normal because you can get an entire extra unit effected or perhaps sooner to protect your army on it’s advance.  Feats are extremely important in these types of games, use them wisely.

Love Stinks Steamroller Tourney Report

  ~ By Goris
This tourney was something I had been waiting for quite some time as it would be the first time in a while that a PG would be running it and I was quite excited.  I brought out the big boys for it, but unfortunately my list needed a little tuning because of the untimely demise and slow resurrection of a Fennblade who fell victim to one of my dogs.

So to start, here were my chosen lists.

Awesome Armies ~ Borka by Goris

To kick off our newest Series, Awesome Armies, Goris has given us a write up on Borka and the successes, strategies, strengths and weaknesses with the army he has chosen to go with it.

Now, I am a huge fan of the eDoomy beast trifecta. However, that being such a popular list of late, I decided during nightfall to branch out and try our lower fury Melee centric casters. So I tailored a Borka list that has been working very well for me and provides a good number of troops, a few beasts and some great speed.
