Baka's Open Challenge #2
Greetings all!
Just over a week ago I had the idea to host an open challenge weekend over Vassal where anybody who wished to could come and challenge me to a game or watch me play and after the game I would offer commentary, advice and feedback about any part of their game that they wanted me to. The idea went another step further when I spent the whole of the Saturday catering to a request to make Scattergunners into an effective part of a competitive Trollblood list. Even though the whole thing was organised in a pretty short space of time it was an amazing experience and quite possibly the most rewarding thing about the whole weekend was being able to talk members of the community who until then had merely been names on a forum (or forum lurkers for those who don't post regularly).
I managed to play 11 gruelling games last week on Vassal and this weekend starting on Friday 2nd March I am coming back for more. I want to open myself up to another 3 day marathon of Vassal matches where I will take on all comers! Picking a start time is easy, but an ending time largely depends on the games in question and how long I can hold out. As a result this is what I am looking at for a schedule:
Friday 2nd March
Kicking off at 8pm GMT and hopefully lasting until at least 3am GMT
For this first day every list I use will be to cater to a Trollblood related request, be it using a particular warlock or a model/unit (even Skinners!) and will all be designed as take all comers lists, no armies written to fight against particular factions.
Saturday 3rd March
Kicking off at 6pm GMT and hopefully lasting until at least 3am GMT
This will be the first of two days I will be spending gaming the hell out of my Retribution as I look to not only continue to face new people and experience new lists but also to playtest my Retribution tournament lists in preparation for the upcoming tournament season. However as I wish to focus on working against bad matchups, this day each opponent will choose which of my four candidate warcasters to face (Vyros, Garryth, Ossyan or Ravyn).
Sunday 3rd March
Kicking off at 6pm GMT and lasting until I collapse at the keyboard
This will be the second of the two days spent playtesting and fine tuning my Retribution lists! I will hopefully have cut down my warcaster choice by this stage to my final three (out of three required) and will hope to play each list at least once maybe even some of them twice.
The last Open Challenge Weekend was an incredible experience, and I hope that this one will be just as insightful and more importantly just as much fun! I hope to see you all on Friday and let the games begin!

Dire Brackets ~ Final Results
The results are in and it wasn't pretty, but our fair Warlock Grissel Bloodsong takes the cake. Now for the final Exibition game pGrissel vs eGrissel.
Winner of the Dire Brackets goes to Grimsnik, the proud owner of a fancy new car... well not quite.
Now to the exhibition throw down.
Our own Goris, The Death Claw will be driving Grissel Bloodsong, Fel Caller in a grudge match against Mr. Mike 'The Shenaniganizer' Davies who will be driving our newest Warcaster Grissel Bloodsong, Marshal of the Kriels. They will be playing a 50pt throw down to vie for supremecy, one Warcaster an old staple. The other Warcaster trying to prove that you don't need a good feat to win. In their last matchup Goris stole deafeat from the clutches of victory and would like to attempt avoiding a repeat.
Stay tuned for their lists and strategies and full coverage of their throw down. Right here at Trollbloodscrum.

Scrum Painting Challenge
Alright folks. This is where we find out who has the Grit. Where we separate the men from the boys and go ahead and add some other cliché phrase in there. Today I issue this challenge to the Scrum readers and the Trollblood forums.
1 Model Per Week Challenge!
I will be taking submissions from our readers and yes writers every week for this Challenge. The goal, to be fully painted by Lock n Load. I did a similar challenge for myself painting up my hardcore list last year and it was a great way to motivate myself.
Here are the Rules:
1. A commitment e-mail stating your Forum name and faction(non Trolls welcome) stating you will send me a picture of ONE completed model each week to be featured on the scrum. This means even just one model in a unit, but only one model must be completed weekly. Submit to Goris@trollbloodscrum.com
2. Models MUST adhere to Hardcore 2011/12 standards of painting and basing.
3. All submission for the week are due Fridays before midnight(PST). In prep for posting on Saturday.
4. All submissions will featured on The Scrum and all failures to complete will be posted as well. So we will all openly mock you.
5. This Challenge starts January 15th and will persist up until the last week before Lock n Load. I understand this will be a long process, but it's a good way to motivate(guilt) everyone into painting their Trolls.
6. Upon completion those who succeed in the challenge with but entered into a drawing to win a spectacular prize! We don't know what that is yet, but it'll be awesome!
So dive in folks and let's see some of your work and good luck from The Scrum!

Random Caster Tournament
Being a Press Ganger has many benefits and drawbacks. One of the drawback is that more often than not a Press Ganger doesn't get to play in very many tournaments and when they do get a chance to play rarely does it count towards prizes. One of the benefits is that us Press Gangers get to make unique events and tournaments just for fun. One of those tournaments that we have upcoming at Phoenix Games & Comics is our...
What if Haley decided that Cygnar wasn't rigid enough for he and she left them to join the Protectorate of Menoth? How about if Rathrock corrupted Madrak to the point where Cryx looked more appealing than his home with the Trollbloods? Or if the Old Witch decided long ago to stay with the Circle of Orbors and their dubious ways?...

Grissel Bloodsong, Marshal of the Kriels
Grissel Bloodsong stands as a bastion amid the storm devastating the lives of her people. Assuming leadership was never her goal, but she has proven worthy of shouldering the burden of Marshal of the Kriels in Ironhide’s absence. She gladly fights alongside her warriors and asks nothing of them she would not risk herself. They trust her to save them whether by shrewd words or the booming of her explosive voice and hammer on the battlefield.

Behold the glory that is the War Wagon!
From here it's tough to say if that's a scattergun or a slugger, but there's some serious fire power happening on this thing.

Hey, You Guys!
Hey, this is Jeff. You may know me by my forum name, worldsdeadliestcomposer. You may also know me as El Beasto, The Cap'n, or some other name. In any case, I am now a contributor to the blog dedicated to those angry Scottish trolls that everyone seems to love. For those of you who don't know me, Legion is my primary faction, and I also play Skorne, Circle and Minions. According to Dallas I am also a modeling expert and like your mom, so these are the areas/factions I will be taking the perspective of in my posts. Farewell for now my fellow Scrummers.

Grandpa With A Big Heart
| This post rather than talk about Khador or Trolls (blasphemy), I want to talk about one of the most noble and big hearted things Ive ever seen. If you were at Lock'n'Load you probably saw a young man in a wheelchair being accompanied by his grandpa. I got a chance to talk to the grandpa while the kid was being helped by their NA. The love and compassion that the grandpa had for his grandson was astounding. The grandson couldn't move his arms so he would tell the grandpa where he wanted his figs to go and what they were to do and the grandpa would do it for him. Honestly I was choked up by this. That grandpa deserves a medal. Not only was he taking an interest in the things his grandson was doing, he was enabling him to do it. I think that kid, for his grandpas sake, should have won one of the battlefoam bags that were in the drawing. I just wanted to tell you all about someone that made me a better person. There is a lesson there that we can all learn from. -Sephiroths_Khador Khador doesnt need more arc-nodes. We have plenty of arc-nodes. The main spell we cast through those nodes? Axe to face. Juggernaut, berserker, drago, beast. They're all great nodes for the Axe to face. |

The Gauntlet has been tossed
Lock and Load is going to big. It's going to be glorious. The action will be fast and furious. The beer will be flowing and the Kilts will be fashionable.
Among all the things that will be happening at L&L one of these events will be momentous. Goris and I (theummhmmguy) will be meeting for the first time face to face.
It is apparent that the best way to commemorate this meeting is for a truly epic battle of Kith and Kriel.
I'm calling you out Goris. My Rocky Mountain Trolls are itching to test the Mettle of the West Coast Trolls.
My proposal is simple. You choose my caster and I'll choose yours, for 35 or 50 points of axe to mouth, we will have to work out the rest with the help of our readers. Loser buys winner a Drink or a Caber Tosser. That and of course our battle will be well documented here at The Scrum to enable the winner as much bragging rights as possible.
Saerko and Bakaryu you aren't off the hook. You two are next...

Quake Dice
Repost from Adventures In Wargaming
Quake Dice
Posted on March 14, 2011 by izza111s
As you may know, Christchurch, New Zealand was hit by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake on 22nd Feb, causing substantial damage and some loss of life.
I live 2 hours drive away, but for 8 years Christchurch was home. My wife is from Christchurch, all her family live there and we have alot of friends who also live there.
Christchurch is where I started my interest in wargaming, and is very close to my heart.
When an earthquake hit in September last year, I organised a series of charity Wargaming events, (a gaming tournament, a raffle and some online auctions) we managed to raise $555 for the Red Cross Earthquake Relief Fund.
This time other people are organising Wargaming events in my area, so I have been trying to think of another way we can raise money for charity.
So I was lying in bed the other night, when a bolt of inspiration hit me (and it wasnt my wife digging me in the ribs because I was snoring either!).
“How about doing a set of custom dice to raise funds?”
So I approached Chessex dice about getting some dice made.
The dice are a nice mix of Red and Black colours, their Gemini design with gold pips.
Then on the 6 pip side, we have a seismograph. The quake was a magnitude 6, after all.
Red and Black are the traditional colours for Christchurch based sports teams, and is reckonised thoughtout New Zealand as being the colours of Christchurch.
100% of profits will be donated. 50% will go to the Red Cross Earthquake Appeal, with the other 50% going to the 2 wargaming clubs in Christchurch (the Christchurch Cavaliers and the Christchurch Wargaming Club). The gaming clubs are still closed, and they have not been able to get in to see what the state of their terrain, table etc are in, but I have a feeling there will be alot of repair work needed.
I think its kind of nice for gamers to be helping gamers.
These dice will be sold in sets of 6 for NZ$12 plus postage.
For non New Zealand orders, payment can be made via PayPal
So send an email to quakedice@gmail.com to place your order.
Cheers

Show Me Yer Caber
When hand weapons just aren't good enough. When the typical just won't do. When the need to get the job done with style and originality presents itself our Caber Tossers stand up to the plate. Women want him and men want to be him...
Now that I showed you mine, lets see yours. Your Caber Tossers that is. You can send them to trollbloodscrum@yahoo.com along with contact information and I will post them here. If I can't contact the winner then someone else will win in your place. Submissions will be accepted until the end of February, at the end of the month the Troll who has the best caber wins (note there may be multiple winners depending on my wallet size at the end of the month). What do you win you might ask? Not only do you get the glory and honor of being the coolest. Not only do you get the adoration of many Troll women. You get an unopened, unpainted Caber Tosser to add to your collection. Because lets face it, where one Caber is good, nine are better. Winners will be announced and blogged about starting the first of next month and will be chosen by a panel of pretty awesome painters.
Bring it on Troll Brothers. Lets see your Caber.

Grissel Bloodsong, the Queen of Jams
by MrChomperz
Madrak’s second in command and defender of all things trollkin this buxom beauty a pure support warlock that rarely uses spells. Her fell calls are some ultimate model/unit support and will make the difference between a unit damaging a warbeast, boxing that warbeast, or getting away quietly. She is the trollblood infantry caster and will push a full unit to do marvelous things.
Her primary strength is giving one large unit the crushing power to take out anything and zoom into combat when not engaged. She will take a big unit, like full Kriel warriors or max long riders, jam a charge lane or boost their number and quality of attacks. It is some awesome power to see two caber tossers outright scrap a heavy jack.
