Mechanik's Heaven: A Day Off

With shattered jack's in tow the Mechanik's returned home. Two of their friends were twisted piles of junk, another moved with slow, sporadic movement, obviously badly damaged. The third, Arkadi, was completely undamaged, not even a scratch upon the Laborjack's frame.

And lo, did the warriors return, disheartened by the damage they had taken, but they had indeed driven off the Skorne threat, though perhaps the Skorne merely retreated. Regardless, they had work to do as the repairs on their Jack's were going to be enormous, luckily though they hadn't actually completely destroyed any of the pieces, so repair was possible.

It was with this in mind that the group gathered around, their leader, Finnegan, looked at all of them, tired, worn and disheveled. "We'll take a rest and then get started on the repairs, but the evenings are your own assuming we don't get called out again. We all need a rest from this twenty-four hours a day danger. Also the repairs are significant enough that somebody needs to head round to the guard captain's office and pick up our pay. I suspect he's got it closed down for now so we'll get it later."

They all got a good rest that evening and on the morning the sounds of repairs could be heard. Lucky and Taltos were in dire need of some repairs so it was to get those two back up and running that the crew started on them. But with four mechaniks the work on the two jacks went quickly. Disassembled, each mechanik took a major system in hand and began the repairs, sorting out the oddities of the damage and repairing what they could. Taking advantage of their contacts to get parts brought in on credit for now, they managed within that days worth of work to get the majority of the repairs completed so that they now had four jacks, damaged admittedly, but still four working jacks. Late that afternoon, while Finnegan kept working on some finicky pieces, he sent out the others to get their pay and to enjoy the rest of the day at the bar. So it was that Andrew, Dmitriy and Emma head out to the Broken Anvil to enjoy a hard earned rest.

The Anvil wasn't terribly full today. A strange fur clad human sat with a trollkin drinking some and chatting in a foreign language. One of the Rhulic folk sat at the bar, tended by a Nyss, the two chatting quietly as well as the bartender served him a fine ale. Two others, each sitting by themselves also were in the Anvil, a resting ogrun laborer and a mysterious Iosan woman.

Dmitriy decided he felt like getting lucky this evening and immediately headed over to hit on the Iosan, his opening line was pretty weak but not enough to scare her off. Andrew, with nothing better to do joined Dmitriy, all of Dmitriy's attempts at making it clear he was on the prowl rolling right over the oblivious warcaster.

Emma on the other hand headed straight to the bar, ordering a drink and starting up a conversation with the Rhulic trader, who's name she learned was Paul. He was a merchant in the town and very disturbed by the rumors he was hearing as he had a load of material to move north shortly and the military couldn't provide any kind of escort. This piqued Emma's interest and she chatted up the merchant trying to discover what he had heard about the danger to the city, in particular what he had heard about the 'mercenaries defending the city'.
After the last few days of hard labor, the Mechanik's take a day off for a drink and some entertainment!

Mechanik's Heaven: The Skorne Menace

Little did the Mechaniks know, their battle with the traitors had been observed, and the information collated. The Skorne had been watching for some time now and the word from the Iosan's that the city was unprotected was first met with disbelief, but the little escapade with the traitors convinced them that there may be some truth to the news.

And so one of their own was sent with a battle force to test the city. Not an all out attack yet, the Skorne didn't have the resources in place to hold such a conquest but enough to really test if this was all the city had. A battle force including one of the Bonzeback Titan's and lead by none other than Master Tormentor Morghoul. A force of Praetorian Swordsmen and a Basilisk Drake and Krea finished out the force sent against the city. Morghoul plan wasn't to push fully against this, he knew if he pushed too hard things might unravel on the strategic scene, and if the Cygnaran's pushed harder or seemed to be withdrawing for no reason he was to be wary, but the opportunity seemed too easy to turn down.

For our hero's this battle would be the most serious they had faced to date.

Mechanik's Heaven: The Traitors

Our Mechanik's charter had quite the good deal. 230 crowns a day! Just to keep their jacks running full time and deal with whatever showed up. But what would show up? Nobody knew that the cities defenses had been dealt such a blow after all.(As a note, runnning the four labor jacks full time is costing us approximately 100 crowns of coal/water per day so our profit per day is 130 crowns)
Or did they? Little does the party know that the Retribution's plan wasn't just to deal that blow but to drive Cygnar's enemies through the breach. And to do so they've sent messages to the Skorne, and to Magnus, as well as others of the weakness in the city.
The party on the other hand had it's hands full keeping their jacks running full time, and in making sure they could get some time in for repairs and time to try and salvage material from the other broken jacks. Those retribution jobs seemed like they had a solid chassis, even if how they worked was beyond the group. The plating and metals could be reused, and combined with parts that the company could Scrounge from around town, they should allow the group to get some Talon equivalent jacks up and running, if they can find the cortex to run them. They had learned some though from the encounters and now put their new skills to use(2xp from the last encounter put us at the first level of experience, each session would generally gain us 2xp going forward)

Inn of Odd Wanderings

Doctor here again. Still making my attempts at figuring out the wargaming side of things but until I have something worth mentioning on that end you'll just have to 'listen' to the ravings on the RPG side of things.

So with that out of the way, for those of you doing the RPG side of things, here's a new piece for you. I've been thinking of a shared space for one shots. Play By Posts, and such, tend to have a lot of characters posted, and there are nearly always some folks who don't get into the games. So I thought of having a space where characters could sit in common. And so was born the Inn of Odd Wanderings. Here's the description from one Traveling Adventurer's journal:

The Inn of Odd Wanderings is pretty non-descript. A single building by the roadside, no town near it. It serves as an overnight stop over and has since before even the Orgoth invaded. The building itself, a wooden structure, is well enough maintained but wears its age proudly. The downstairs is wholely given over to the tap room and the kitchens, large enough for a small crowd, though often enough it's a quiet place, depending on where people are coming from or going to. The upstairs has rooms for travelers, both communal rooms as well as a few private rooms for those wealthy enough or important enough to need them. The area immediately around the inn is well groomed enough. A small garden sits in back providing much of the seasonings and some of the vegetables served at the inn. The small stable and 'Jack hall sits to the side, away from the main building, and sturdy enough for even the worst of weather.

Mechanik's Heaven: An Online IKRPG Campaign

When it comes to my 'lifeblood' it's the IKRPG side of things, rather than the wargame. (though I'll post later on my thoughts on starting a Trollblood army, something I'm getting ready to do.) I also used to enjoy a very regular gaming session with friends before my move south. I've been missing that and the friend of mine that got me into IKRPG and I have been talking about doing a game online. Play By Posts just don't have the social aspect and the speed which we wanted. It all finally crystalized together after my wife complained about not being able to get her gaming/social fix in either. When the wife comments I know I need to do something.

And so was born the Mechanika Campaign. Played weekly I will give you a sense of where this campaign is going and how we do it. This will be an ongoing series on the Mechanika Campaign.

But first the tools of an online game. Two key features, one is voice and video. You need that around the table feeling where you can laugh at each other, etc. For that we've used a variety of tools. For small numbers of people we've used Oovoo, a great free video chat that we still use to chat with family with the kids all the time. We've found it to be great for providing the chat component, especially when it's hosted on a TV in the living room with the videos hanging out to one side. You can do your main view in the rest of it and have a quick 'table' view of who else is playing. Worked out great.
